My favorite genre to work in is horror! I was honored when Square Biz Entertainment approached me to work on their graphic novel, Twilight Hotel. I worked closely with the creators to adapt their screenplay into sequential art. They wanted the book to be a mix of black and white and full color art. I also handled the design and lettering. I digitally painted all the pages using Photoshop CC.
Blending black and white noir with modern gore, Twilight Hotel was a chilling experience!
Chroma, a post-apocalyptic graphic novel, required a special emphasis on cinematic lighting effects to convey the tone of each scene. With futuristic technology set against the grandness of outer space, I drew inspiration from some of my favorite films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, and Moon.
Morgan Le Fay
This was a particularly special project. I painted this scene as a birthday gift for my lovely fiancé, Marisa. Aside from being a mystic, herself, she's also a huge fan of The Mists Of Avalon. It was a lot of fun packing all metaphysical and occult symbolism into this piece.
PS: She loved it!
A heavy metal album cover I did for the band Crimshaw. Their vision was a beautiful woman leaning into the window of a classic Camaro in a seedy back alley. The band name/logo was already designed but I was in charge of designing the album title "Valerie" and cover layout. I'm especially proud of how the car turned out!
League of Sons
I was comissioned to design a pair of sci-fi fantasy warriors inspired by angels and demons. I was given a lot of creative freedom and these pieces allowed me to experiment with different painting techniques.
Fighter Jet Pinups
A fun commission for J.A.M. Screen Printing. This is a t-shirt design for a local band in their area called Fighter Jet Pinups. They wanted a retro pin-up girl holding a Fender Stratocaster while riding a bomb, like something you'd see airbrushed on the side of a WWII fighter jet. I told them "I got this!"
Jayme David Silverstein
Synth musician Jayme David Silverstein approached me to illustrate a series of pieces for his album. The client referenced work by the fantastic neo-noir style artist Craig Drake. The challenge was to listen to Jayme's LP and create unique imagery to accompany each song. This was a particularly exciting project that opened me up to a vivid new style of art that I have since fallen in love with!
When I saw Jared Leto's portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad I was blown away! His performance of the character was unlike anything I'd seen before and it inspired me to paint this piece. In fact, I loved his performance so much I went as Mr. J for Halloween!
One of my favorite art styles to work in, this noir piece was commission as a Christmas gift featuring the client's significant other. They loved the neo-noir look of some of my other work and wanted something classy, sophisticated, and stylish.
A concept piece I created in preparation for a larger project. The concept was never used but I'm still very proud of how it turned out so I thought I'd share it. I might use it for something of my own someday!
In this rather interesting assignment, I was commissioned to paint a poster for a stage play entitled "Inspector Descending," which played in New York City. I was given an incredible amount of creative freedom to create the appearance of each character as long as they were from the Victorian era. I also handled the typography and design.
Point Pleasant was a comic book project I illustrated as part of a submission package. What drew me to this particular book was the fact that it was a dark, gruesome horror story set in the 1970s, and I'm a sucker for anything retro! The client originally only wanted traditional comic book line art that would then be colored however, I felt like the tone of the story required something more. I convinced the client to let me paint the pages and they were very pleased with the end result.
